I Interviewed 1 of the 7 brides of Satan
It’s not everyday you get to meet someone who has seen Satan in the flesh.
When I set out to make my second movie, Furious Love, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. If I had, I might have had second thoughts, honestly. I knew going in this wasn’t going to be a happy frolic through poppy fields since I was making a movie about, essentially, spiritual warfare, but my naivety of this world I was entering hid me from much of the struggle that was going to come.
One of the most unbelievable things I filmed was my meeting with a woman who claimed to be a former “bride of Satan”.
She has since become a great friend, but at the time, I was just trying to wrap my mind around the story she was telling me. I had heard about her through a series of reliable friends and it honestly took some persuading to get her to agree to film with me.
Unlike some charlatans of the past who maybe embellished these kinds of things in order to sell a book or fund a speaking tour, “Esther” as we’ll call her, didn’t want any of that. She just wanted to stay under the radar, and my film was obviously a threat to that.
In the end, we agreed to hide her face and change her voice, and that seemed enough to assuage her fears.
The whole interview was almost destroyed before I arrived. As soon as I got off the plane, I found out that both she and her husband (he has a ministry in Europe) had been “betrayed” by one of their closest friends.
This person had apparently given slanderous quotes to a major local news outlet about them and their ministry and had caused a lot of damage through lies that they were now going to have to clean up. The media story had run, literally, the day before I landed, and here I was, another member of the “media” who could take everything they said out of context and paint them to be liars and weirdos.
I was standing next to Esther as she and her husband were discussing this problem with some of their friends, and I had a moment of fear where I wondered if they were going to be able to trust me or not.
Immediately Esther turned to me and said, “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” I replied.
“No, seriously, what’s wrong?”
I didn’t know what to say.
“Really, I’m fine.”
She seemed to be gazing INTO me, and she had a real look of concern on her face.
“No, something’s wrong. Your color just changed.”
“Yeah, your color. Kind of like your aura. While we were just talking, it changed.”
Okay, so I now knew I was dealing with someone with spiritual eyes like no one I’d met before. Might as well come clean.
“Well, I was listening to what’s happening to you guys, and I was just nervous that maybe you wouldn’t trust me.”
Her eyes immediately softened, and she put her hand on my shoulder.
“We trust you. I can see your sincerity and your purity. I know you won’t do anything to hurt us.”
Then she hugged me.
We did the interview, which is featured in Furious Love, and it was, predictably, bananas. Her entire life had been spent deep inside Satanism, and she was being groomed to be one of the 7 secret “brides of Satan” (there is one for each continent). At the ceremony where it is made official, Satan himself shows up and…um…has relations with each girl, thus sealing the deal. (If you need a Biblical verification that this is possible, see Genesis 6:4) Amazingly, Esther was saved and delivered just months before her ceremony was to take place.
It’s people and stories like these that have continued to open my eyes to a much bigger, stranger, and complicated world than I ever thought possible growing up in a middle-class, fairly sheltered Christian home. We are at war with darkness should be no surprise, but I find increasing comfort in the fact that the weapon of our warfare is not through might or intimidation, but through love, grace, and compassion.
